DISCLAIMER

program. You are using it ENTIRE at your own risk.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
You need OS2.0 or higher !!!
QUICK OVERVIEW
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Are your programms and drawers spread over several hard disc partitions?
Do you have to open tons of windows because just the program you need isn't
in your dock line, menu, button list or an application icon?
WBAlias may be the solution for all these problems:
WBAlias add's the menuitem `Make Alias' to your WB toolmenu.
Now you can create an alias for any program, drawer or volume by simply
selecting the original icons and picking `Make Alias' from the menu!
The alias and the original mustn't be on the same device and the alias
can be accessed just as the original.
USAGE
¯¯¯¯¯
You can put WBAlias in your WBStartup drawer, but of course it can also
be started from anywere. Two values can be set at startup via tooltypes
when started from WB or as argument when started from CLI.
The default values are shown in brackets.
ALIASNAME [%s (Alias)]
This is way how the name from the alias is created out of the original
name. The `%s' is repaced by the original name. Other Example:
`>%.28s<' will surround the original filename with `><', if the
original filename is longer than 28 chars it is trunciated.
ALIASDRAWER [open filerequester for the first time]
Where to put your alias files and drawers.
After starting WBAlias you should see the menuitem `Make Alias'.
Now select the original volumes, drawers or programs and pick `Make Alias'.
If no `ALIASDRAWER' is specified a filerequester will pop up and lets you
select the drawer for the alias. Further alias files will be stored there
without promting. The drawer can be changed by picking `Make Alias' without
selected icons. If you cancel the filerequester WBAlias will quit (also when
recieving a CTRL-C).
If you open an alias drawer, the original drawer will open. When starting an
alias program the original program will start (the alias can have different
tooltypes than the original!). Of course you can move, rename, snapshoot your
alias. Deleting it will only delete your alias not the original. If you copy
an alias you'll get a copy of the original!
TECHNICAL NOTE
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The alias is simply the copied icon from the original plus a soft link
that points to the original.
WARNINGS AND TIPS
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
o If you want to use the soft links also from other programs than Workbench,
you should install the patch aminet/util/boot/fixslinks-0.5.lha by
Todd Vierling to get fully working symbolic links
o Be carefull with directory and backup tools as some of them don't
know soft links and might not act as you expect them to !!!
o Don't try to put alias files in the RAM: (buggy under 2.0/2.1 and not
possible under 3.0/3.1)
o Best place for your alias drawer is on the Workbench (`Leave Out')
If you have comments, suggestions, criticism, bug reports etc.
